Policies and Fees

As part of the therapeutic relationship, confidentiality is not only integral for building trust and
enhancing the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client, it’s also a protective measure
to ensure that a client’s information is kept private. A client’s information may not be disclosed without the prior written consent of the client, or in cases where a client’s or others’ safety may be compromised such as:

  1. In cases of suspected child abuse, elderly abuse, or abuse of a dependent adult.

  2. In cases where a client is threatening to commit suicide or threaten serious harm to themselves.

  3. In cases where a client is threatening serious injury to another person.

In cases such as these, the therapist will need to break confidentiality to keep the client safe and/or keep other individuals safe by making a report to the proper authorities (i.e. Department of Child and Family Services, Police) and/or notify designated individuals that can assist in keeping the client or other individual(s) safe.
